the most important lesson

i had fun throughout these 3 weeks of UIR, even though it's taking up my vacation time, i learnt a lot, and i think that the most important lesson i've learnt is the internet is a vast library full of information about anything imaginable, and this knowledge you can acquire from the internet can be used for positive and negative deeds. but UIR taught me how to retrieve these positive and negative information in different ways.

FRIENDSTER V.S. FACEBOOK.

i don't use friendster but i think one of it's weaknesses is that their applications do not interact with other users, unlike Facebook.

the strength for friendster is that it is very popular and you can find almost all of your friends there, it's been around longer than facebook and that helps with it's popularity.

can these network websites ever replace face to face interaction? i think in the new future, with technology changing our lives so much, online interaction will be more common than face to face interaction. through these network websites, people will video chat and carry their businesses online.

my dream holiday.

my dream holiday is to attend a kick ass awesome show in America, cause that's where most of my favorite bands are, the crowd is violent, the music is great, who can ask for more?
it is my dream holiday and ambition to stay there forever.

TalkingCock.com

in class, we discussed about a website made by Singaporeans and their comical views on Singapore taking into consideration 3 different point of views, the Prime minister of Singapore, A Singaporean and A foreigner.

the prime ministers view on the website was that it was a joke and an insult to singapore and all singaporeans. the jokes they make give a bad impressions to foreigners and as the prime minister, it is unacceptable.

the singaporean's view on the site is that they understand that the site is just poking fun at the seriousness of everyday life in singapore and couldn't care less. he/she finds it amusing.

a foreigner's view on the site is that they also don't really care, it is just a website.

prac 4 & 5.

practical 4 and 5 taught me the different search facilities there are, i didnt know most of them existed such as meta search engines and subject directories. i also learnt how these search facilities worked.

i was given an activity to do, to use word variations to increase the chances of me getting better results back from using search facilities. it was very helpful.

i also did an experiment to see how different the search results were between the 3 different search facilities, and i learnt that search engines are the best tools to research on the internet... maybe there are exceptions.
